Samsung SH100

Good valueBright, picturesWi-Fi punchy feature allows you to download images directly on WebLow performance is particularly video goodaverage quality

In this age of instant sharing and social networking, having a camera which can wireless zap photos directly in your Web Gallery or profile page is logical. The good news is that, at about £ 140, the compact Samsung SH100 offers Wi - Fi connectivity without costs a small fortune.

The SH100 is a pleasantly designed technology. It is available in three colors - a completely black version, a model of money and an edition two-tone red and black. The body is slightly tilted, so that if you stand, it seems to be leaning towards the rear. From the front, it resembles most of the other cameras in the range of Samsung 2011.

The lens is slightly raised, with a built-in just left flash. The upper edge has three buttons - power, play, and a combined release of shutter and zoom. At the back, you will find only a single button. This is because all the rest is controlled by the SH100 3-inch touch screen. It is also a good interface.

Press the "home" button, and you can flick through main functions of the camera. Eavesdropping on an icon takes you through other options, where there is available. According to your shooting mode, you may find icons for even more options - timer, flash and so on - down on the side of the screen that you compose your shot. There is a "menu" button on the screen too, but the menus themselves are, fortunately, pretty minimal.

Good light, detail is good and colours are bold - almost too fat. There are some dilute in solid colours, however, especially in grey areas (click on image to enlarge).

Samsung is quite generous when it comes to provide tools to encourage your creativity. There is a good selection of filters, for example, the miniaturization and blur. Dedicated for filters of vignetting and palette modes allow a certain amount of customization, and there are tools focus on the slider to change the color temperature, highlights, dyed and much more.

If you are not interested in all this, then the smart auto mode does its best to manage all settings on the fly with little need for human intervention. Overall, the SH100 is not only easy to use but also easy to take full advantage of the, which will be refreshing to more advanced features of their unwieldy camera for anyone who has ever found.

Storage-Wise, the SH100 uses Cards microSD rather than the variety of standard size SD. It is not a huge, although the microSD cards are slightly fiddlier and market easier to lose. This may also mean that you will need to shell out for a new card, even if you already have several standard SD cards, hanging around.

A sensor 14.2 megapixels and a 5 zoom lens (equivalent to 26 mm) x wide-angle provide necessary things to of all taken SH100 photo. None are particularly notable, even if we can readily point out that, together, they help the camera to produce some pleasantly snappy snaps. Pop colors, with good amounts of this detail in every frame.

Strong colors can look almost overwhelming, but if you find this off-putting and attractive is a matter of taste. Nature shots turn very well also, with much variation in the shades of green. However, it is not all good news. Look closely and you'll notice some grains in the areas of solid color, and some distortion of the lens around the edges of the image on the left side for some reason any.

Performance low-light is not a strong point of the camera, either. Despite the high ISO settings available - up to 3 200 - noise of the image soon affects the quality of the photo when the camera is used indoors, so you'd better use the flash when possible.

Video performance is approximately average for an aircraft of this type. The high setting of the page, you can record 720 p high definition clips, but the quality is not particularly impressive.

This photo shows a wealth of detail and variation in tone, but you can see some distortion of the objective on the left edge of the image (click on image to enlarge).

Wireless functionality may seem fanciful, but it is indeed very convenient if you want to share your buttons online. The SH100 allows you to put photos and video directly on Facebook, Picasa, YouTube, Photobucket and Samsung own online photo service. Wireless is also very easy to configure and use.

We have uploaded our first photo to Facebook a few seconds to connect to our wireless router. A touch screen keyboard help when it comes to enter the network key and the connection details. It is also useful for adding comments to your photos.

You can also save your photos on your PC on the air, as well as browse photos in your galleries online on the camera and connect to the Internet via devices for 3 G that support tethering. All very handy.

Deep down, the Samsung SH100 is little more than a simple camera type, but it is very attractive. It is small, takes a good image and comes with some excellent features for a price that break the Bank. Online connectivity may not be a necessity for everyone, but the SH100 provides a good alternative to download blurry photos, portable format directly from your phone.
