All-in-one inkjet printer Canon Pixma MX885 aims to bring tons of features to your home office. With color and photo printing capacity, it also packs in the scan and fax functions, and includes an autoloader for documents, and support for double-sided printing. You can buy online for about £ 150.
For a printer all-in-one ink jet, the MX885 has a large footprint at 491 by 448 mm. The glossy finish on the bottom of the printer appears to be quite interesting, but Canon wisely used a coating on the Control Panel, it is less likely to attract sordid fingerprints.
Towards the centre of the Panel, there are large color screen, 3 inches. Combined with a grid of buttons that light up in the modes were selected, which makes it very easy to use printer. There are buttons dedicated to basic functions such as copy, fax, scanning and printing photos of memory cards.
Behind one door curved, flip-out on the lower right, you will find three memory card slots, supporting all major formats including SD, xD-Picture Card, Memory Stick and CompactFlash. Under it, there is a USB PictBridge compatible, so you can read photos directly from compatible cameras.
The bottom of the printer is home to a 150 sheets feeder which displays its content in a tray drop-down above. Cleverly, if it is not already dropped when the printer starts, it opens automatically before the arrival of the first page. There is also an another tray lower on the back of the printer that can be used either regular paper feed or, more likely, photo paper.
The top of the scanner is houses a dadf fax or photocopy the documents to multi-page without having to manually placing each sheet on the scanner glass surface. This holds up to 35 sheets and can be a standby of time, especially for those who use the printer in a busy Home Office.
The large colour screen makes it easy to select photos on memory cards.Install the printer and print cartridges are a process fairly quick and easy, thanks to a graphical wizard screen color. Once you lift the lid, the printing mechanism moves toward the Center to make it easier to install the semi-permanent print head. You slot then the five cartridges in this and on each cartridge LED lights up to show you that this is in place. Once this work is complete, the printer then produces an alignment page and you are ready to crack.
When it comes to connectivity, there are many options. With USB port, there is also a connector on the rear and 802 Ethernet. .11n ready, integrated Wi - Fi. Implementation of Ethernet connectivity and Wi - Fi is pleasantly simple, too.
The scanner has an optical resolution of 2400 x 4, 800 dpi. Although the scanners were not the strengths of models of all-in-one gun in the past, this is in a good view. It manages to retain the subtle colours when capturing pictures and levels of detail are also impressive. It is fast, when it comes to copy, taking just 18 seconds to produce a black and white photocopy. Interestingly, this model also lets you save scans and faxes of memory cards or USB storage devices.
Like many Canon models, the MX885 is fast enough when it comes to printing. The double-sided printing is rather slow, as the duplex takes some time to feed the paper in the printer for the second round, but the duplex is fast.
Our document of 10 pages of black and white test took a simple 1 minute and 8 seconds to print. The printer pumped our presentation of ten pages color in 2 minutes and 3 seconds. It proved fast in the graphics test too, managing to finish ten copies of our test in 2 minutes and 28 seconds sheet. Photo print was just as impressive - the MX885 ended our 4 - by 6-inch printed in a 33 seconds Flash test.
The printing speed is not at the expense of quality, either. The MX885 produces thick, inky black text that is also very crisp and sharp. Colors look ace too, and cannot really be imputed to the quality photo printing. Photos look very vives and tones even skin are free spots for some very professional results.
Costs of operation of the printer, it is not the cheapest that we met, however. It uses a total of five cartridges and, at current prices, labour costs to about 4.9 p for a page in black and white and 11.2 percent for a page of color, including 0.7% for the costs of paper prints. It is considerably more expensive than models from Kodak, for example.
The Canon Pixma MX885 is an excellent all-in-one printer. It is easy to use and produces impressive results very quickly. Its high operating costs are something to keep in mind, however.
